*** The piece explores atonal textures, rhythmic displacements,…

Guinga convida Marcelo Coelho

por | Photos

Contemporaneity would be the word that best describes the meeting of the consecrated acoustic guitarist and composer Guinga with the talented vanguard saxophonist Marcelo Coelho. The contemporaneity of the duo is in the freshness and lyricism of Coelho’s sonority aligned with improvisations over the magnificent melodies and harmonies of Guinga’s compositions.  Beyond soprano, Coelho also plays tenor sax in the concert, the composer’s favorite!  Guinga allows that his music has been rarely performed on the instrument and compliments, “Marcelo Coelho is one of the most in tune saxophonists I have ever heard.”  The musicians played together for the first time in the concert entitled, “Guinga and David Liebman invite Marcelo Coelho” which was performed in the São Paulo Cultural Center…

Guinga & David Liebman apresentando Marcelo Coelho

por | Photos

In july, 2010, a dream came true! I had the opportunity to play with two great masters and really important musicians in my career: Guinga and David Liebman. However, what I didn’t expected was to play with both of them at the same concert and being introduced by them as the new member of the group. This collaboration started during the 21st. IASJ international meeting, hosted by Souza Lima Conservatory in July, 2011. David Liebman, the artistic director of the association, was introduced to Guinga’s music in 2008. On the other hand, Guinga knew Liebman from Miles Davis’ concert that happened in Rio de Janeiro in the 70’s. The expectation for this concert was huge and both musicians were emotionally…
